CMN Basketball Teams Compete in 2023 AIHEC Tournament

The College of the Muscogee Nation sent its men’s and women’s basketball teams to the 2023 AIHEC Basketball Tournament in New Town, ND. The tournament was held at the Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College on March 30th to April 1st. The competition began with all the teams in pool play to be seated in either the Division I or II brackets.

Both CMN teams entered the regular tournament play in the Division II bracket. The women were coached by CMN faculty member, Cheryl Najera, and the men were coached by CMN alumni and former CMN Raven, Riley Berry. The competition was tough as CMN faced tribal college teams from across the country. Despite not having an athletic program, CMN faced several schools that did compete in a regular schedule at the collegiate level throughout the year.

The CMN Lady Ravens finished the tournament with a third place victory in the Division II bracket. The men ended the tournament play in fourth in the Division II bracket. The Ravens made both the women’s and men’s AIHEC All-Tournament Team with Chloe Floyd (#15) and Brandon Busch (#0) being selected. The College of the Muscogee Nation came home with the top male award with Aaron Wesley (#33) selected as the AIHEC Scholar Athlete.
