The College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN) in partnership with Emory University received a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support an undergraduate fellowship in Mvskoke Language Studies at CMN. The fellowship will support selected CMN students to engage in a Mvskoke Language Master-Apprentice style of teaching and learning environment to increase the students’ language proficiency.
The goal of the CMN Mellon Mvskoke Language Fellowship is to help students increase proficiency and positively impact the Ohmucv Secetv Mvskoke Opunvkv (Mvskoke Language Revitalization) effort at CMN and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. We believe, that with the help of the Mellon Foundation, CMN can provide students in Mvskoke Language Studies with a transformative, master-apprentice Mvskoke language fellowship program – emphasizing experiential learning, mentorship, and increased language skills – that is grounded in and reflects Mvskoke culture and values. Graduates of this program will have an increased proficiency in the Mvskoke language and be in a strong position to transition into further professional language teaching education.
