Testing Center

The College of the Muscogee Nation uses the Accuplacer Placement Test and ALEKS to assess incoming students’ proficiency in reading, writing, English, and mathematics. This computerized test helps determine the most appropriate course placement to support academic success. All students are required to take the Accuplacer Assessment unless they demonstrate proficiency with ACT sub-scores of 19 or higher, or have qualifying transfer credits.

The test is administered at the CMN Testing Center, located in the Administration Building. Students can schedule an appointment through the Student Success Center by calling 918-549-2847.

What to Expect During Your Testing Session

When you arrive to take the ALEKS and/or Accuplacer Placement Test, you’ll be welcomed at the CMN Testing Center, where a staff member will guide you through the process. You may be asked to complete sections in Reading, Writing, English, and Mathematics, depending on your academic background. The ACCUPLACER Placement Test is computerized, untimed, and adapts to your answers by adjusting question difficulty. In contrast, the ALEKS test is timed, giving you up to 3 hours to complete it.

An appointment is recommended to ensure availability and minimize wait times. Testing is available weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

You will be provided with everything you need to complete the test, including scratch paper, pencils, and access to an on-screen calculator when allowed. Personal items are not permitted in the testing room, but lockers are available for storing your hat, smartphone, smartwatch, wallet, and other belongings during the test.

Accuplacer is a suite of computerized tests designed to evaluate students’ skills in Reading & English for placement in the appropriate courses. Accuplacer tests are computer-adaptive and were developed by the College Board, which also administers the ACT test. Student score reports are available immediately following testing. The assessment can be taken in the Student Success testing center, weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. CMN will specify which tests a student should take.
The following policy applies to all students taking the ACCUPLACER assessment:

  1. All examinations will be coordinated through the CMN Assessment Center and will cover
the following areas: Reading, Math, and English skills.
  2. Students will be allowed to take the exam (or each component) up to three times, unless
the student has earned a regular grade or withdrawn with a “W” for the course.
  3. Initial testing must be completed prior to enrollment and retesting must be completed
within the first week of the trimester. Any changes in students schedule due to retesting
must be processed during the first week of the trimester. No retesting will be allowed
after the fifth day of the trimester.

Proficiency requirements:
Students that do not meet the below requirements will be required to take remedial courses to remove their deficiencies.

ALEKS Corporation’s Math and Applied Research teams have developed recommended placement cut scores based on the analysis of math content, the ALEKS Knowledge Structure (Artificial Intelligence), data collected from ALEKS users, and the experience of other institutions using ALEKS PPL. Recommendations are offered for the most frequently taught college math courses, ranging from traditional Basic Math to Calculus I, and includes courses outside the “traditional sequence” such as Business Calculus and Finite Math.

These are only recommendations as every institution is different. While significant effort has gone into arriving at these recommendations, given the range of variables that each institution must consider when determining
cut scores, it is important to evaluate the content of your courses to determine cut scores. For this reason, your ALEKS Strategic Placement Consultant will provide specific recommendations for your courses and tips for how to evaluate the effectiveness.
